A Call for Authentic Leadership
You might not know this about me, but I was born in East Germany, behind the Iron Curtain—in an actual communist country.
Experiencing the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany left a lasting impression, even though I was just a child when it happened. Watching movies and reading stories about it still gives me chills.
Did you know that the events that took place in November of 1989 happened without violence? That’s how the term “Velvet Revolution” was coined.

Why This Matters Now
This term has been popping into my head recently, but in a very different context.
Business culture seems to favor the “predator.” I keep reading about lions and huntresses. And I get it. Why wouldn’t you want to align yourself with the strong and powerful leader types?
You might have seen my rant about hearing “Stop being vanilla!” everywhere. Somehow being vanilla is a bad thing, and I had to set the record straight. (I eventually turned the FB post into the blog post “The Unexpected Power of Being Vanilla“.)
Here’s the thing: there’s nothing wrong with Ruler archetypes showing off. That’s what they do. But there’s also NOTHING wrong with NOT being a Ruler, Hero, lioness or huntress, wearing expensive clothes and handbags or watches, driving fancy cars, drinking champagne, and talking about winning all the time.
So, let me just say this: If you’re here for small talk and “tough love” and me showing off the latest gizmo I got myself as a reward for “winning,” then you’re in the wrong place. There are plenty of others out there. Go follow them. They’re easy to find because they’re usually the loudest in the room. No hurt feelings.
I’m not for everyone, and neither are you.
A Space for Soft Leadership
I want to create a space for the soft leaders, the underdogs, the backstage supporters. Not everyone craves a spot in the limelight. Some thrive by shining the spotlight on others, straightening their crowns for them, and ever so gently nudging their peers, colleagues, or clients to try, try again.
I see you and I’m here for you.
Of course, Rulers and Heroes need support, too. I’m not dissing anybody, and I’m certainly not excluding anybody. I’m just saying this: Here, AUTHENTICITY rules.
The predator business gurus love to polarize. They’ll say that it’s their way or the highway. In my experience, binary advice like that comes from a specific point of view, a specific perspective, specific experiences and goals, but it NEVER works for everybody. Exercise caution with how you choose your mentors. Don’t fall prey to hypnotic, shiny objects. (See what I did there?) What worked for them won’t necessarily work for you, if you’re not like them.
And if they were more honest, they would tell you that up front.
What If You Could Just Be You?
What if you could be accepted as you are? What if you didn’t have to change to fit the mold of the more aggressive, may I even say, adversarial business leader? What if you could be yourself and have a successful brand and business? What if all you needed was clarity and training, some guidance, and an experienced sounding board to sanity-check your strategy with?
Join the Velvet Revolution in Business
Let’s start another Velvet Revolution – a business revolution without FOMO and calling people names!
This is a movement of heart-centered, purpose-driven entrepreneurs who are committed to creating a better world. We are not interested in superficial connections or mindless pursuits of success. We want to create businesses that make a difference, and we want to do it in a way that aligns with our values and our hearts.
You know that I teach about archetypes and how to use them to grow your brand. Different people are attracted to different archetypes.
You don’t have to pretend to be someone else to be successful. You can BE VANILLA and be successful! Because some people LOVE and want vanilla.
Authenticity is where it’s at! I’m here for that.
What We Value
This is a place for:
- Home-brewed kombucha instead of champagne
- Glamping in a treehouse under the stars instead of 5-star resorts
- Not just talking about doing something, but actually doing the best we can. For our clients and patients, but also for ourselves and our planet
- Yoga, zero-waste, raising healthy, independent thinkers and change-makers
- Community-building, fermentation, gardening, traveling…
- Being open-minded and kind. And staying that way in business as well.
It takes guts to show up as yourself, unapologetically. Even if you’re an introvert. Believe it or not, your clients come to you BECAUSE you are the way you are, not despite it!
Find Your People
So, I invite you to join me in this Velvet Revolution, where we celebrate authenticity, purpose, and heart-centered entrepreneurship. We believe that by being true to ourselves, we can make a real difference in the world, without marketing and sales that feel sleazy or unethical, or loud and obnoxious.
As Timothy Leary said:
“Everyone carries a piece of the puzzle. Nobody comes into your life by mere coincidence. Trust your instincts. Do the unexpected. Find the others…”
You’re one of the others! Don’t hide behind the screen. Make yourself known. Let’s connect, even if you’re an introvert, or we really don’t know each other, or you really, really don’t have time.
The world needs more authentic leaders like you.
