It’s that time of year! Goal setting and resolution writing as far as you can see. When it comes to Brand Strategy your first goal should actually be: having one. If you’re already ahead of the crowd with a proper brand strategy in place, then you still need to review your strategy on a regular basis. We usually recommend at least once a year for established businesses, or whenever there’s a major disruption in the market landscape.
How to get started
We have broken the process down into four steps for you. These steps will help you identify any strategic shifts that have taken place in your market or your business, and audit your brand and implementation of it to know what changes need to be made to keep growing.
Step 1: Review the big picture
Get a 30,000-foot overview of what happened in and around your business. Has your Brand Essence changed? Have there been any political, economic, technological, or other events that might influence how your brand strategy? Is there new competition to consider?
Step 2: Review strategy details
Let’s take a closer look at your positioning strategy: Are you trying to reach a new audience? Did you gather some new insights into your current audience that needs to get included in your strategy? What has your competition been up to the past year? Have they rebranded, shifted focus, or added a new product or service? Maybe they have a new website or a new logo. Is your differentiator still strong enough to make you stand out from the crowd? Is it clear to your audience why they should choose your product or service over everybody else’s?
Step 3: review strategy implementation
The best strategy is only as good as its implementation. What good does it do to define your brand voice, color palette, and brand fonts, if your VA uses whatever she feels like the day she creates your content?! Audit your brand messaging and your visual brand identity to ensure everything is aligned.
Step 4: Update and implement
Once you’re clear on what changes need to be made to your brand strategy it’s time to update your Brand Master Guide and implement the changes.
In the Brand Strategy Review Workbook, we walk you through the entire process in detail and give you an implementation strategy we like to use. Be sure to download it below. If you have any questions about your strategy review, you can always ask in the Balanced Brands Community.
